Full Analysis of Rock Sound

There is a main image on the front cover of BMTH; this influences the target audience to buy it as they are a popular and well known band. There are no supporting images, but if there were this would give the consumers a little hint as to what’s inside. Rock Sound has 5 different colours on the front cover, some would say it looks messy, however I feel the reds work well with the main image. There is a total of 2 fonts on the cover; one for the masthead and another for the subtitles around the main image. The cover image is an all-male image; therefore it will most probably attract more women than men. I think the target audience for this magazine is young teenagers/ students who are currently in education.
On the contents page, there is one main image and 4 supporting images. This, once again, gives the reader an insight into the magazine before they've even read the contents page. A maximum of 10 images is suggested for a contents page. On Rock Sound's contents page there are 2 colours which keep it simple but attractive. The numbers are in red and the writing is in white. There are two fonts which, again, keep it simple and not messy similar to that of Kerrang's contents page.
The feature article of Rock Sound is an in-depth interview with Bring Me The Horizon. The main title of the page is a sans serif font which is white on a black background. This increases the boldness and importunateness of the article. Most feature articles have a kicker giving the reader an insight into what they are about to read, therefore Rock Sound’s feature article has a kicker that tells the reader that Oli Sykes is about to reveal how he feels Bring Me The Horizon are progressing. Although Rock Sound feature article does not have a drop cap, it is advised as it tells the reader where to start. The main image on the double page spread is of Oli himself and has a caption telling the reader who and what he does. The image suggests youth and rebellion, which helps to target the audience. There is a quote on the image suggesting to the reader that Oli has a bit of history behind him and therefore has changed and become a better person. This feature article has several pull quotes from the main body text which suggests to the reader that they are fairly important things about the interview. Thee feature article should also have gutters so that it gives it that newspaper feel with brings along that sense of seriousness. There are two main colours within the feature article. Red and black are used for the back ground and main image, but the writing is in white which also stands out against the black background. The colour scheme on the front is also carried through to the feature article which helps create a sense of futurism.
In the magazine are lots of adverts which are specifically in the magazine because they match the target audience that of Rock Sound's. Over a 1/4 of the magazine are adverts. This is probably how the magazine makes money as well as selling the copy itself. Also within the magazine are lists of gigs and festivals coming up within the year, which are obviously included in the magazine as they match the target audience. As well as the dates of the gigs and festivals, there are also many reviews of the events which allow the readers to decide whether to go depending on the reviews. Included in the magazine are up and coming bands that are emerging through this type of genre of music. This encourages people to go and listen to these new and upcoming bands; therefore want to check them out first through this magazine.
